I have to confess, I know it is not environmentally friendly but I really love to clean with bleach. There is no other product that gives that really clean smell. I have tried the route of vinegar and baking soda, I have tried all kinds of products – but what gets the house clean and smelling clean is only old fashioned bleach. I think it is my Mum’s fault – she was a fan of strong smelling cleaning products – she nicknamed Ajax ‘Be-Jesus’ fluid as the smell was so strong.
King David knew the same after he messed up with Bathsheba and got her husband conveniently killed. He knew of only one source of cleansing that could help:
Psalm 51:1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. 7Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
So when I mess up in my thought life, my relationships, in my actions or in inactions I can only turn to one Source for cleansing. There is nothing I can do, no substitute – I cannot behave my way holy, I cannot think myself better. Only the blood of Jesus:
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin,we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
So as I clean my house this weekend and get the whiff of bleach I will remember and turn to Him, the only one who can really cleanse me.
