‘They couldn’t have been spies. Look what she did with the hydrangeas.’

Standard

I was reading an article about the alledged Russian spies in the USA and came across this fantastic quote from one of the neighbours:

‘They couldn’t have been spies. Look what she did with the hydrangeas.’

Obviously it is shocking that someone with green fingers could be a spy! How often we judge people by what they do or how they act – we are so easily shocked when someone is not who they seem to be. Yet all of us have the capability of great evil or great good, not that you could tell by looking at us. How many times neighbours have reacted in shock as news reports reveal they have been living next door to serial killer, a pedophile or a master criminal.

We are all capable of sin. The bible says if we think we are not we are deceived:

1 John 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

But although we can put on a good show for the neighbours we cannot hide the truth from God:

1 Samuel 16:7  The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

What would your neighbours say about you if your heart was truly revealed?

Absolutely, I have no knowledge of how my neighbours behave, but that does not excuse me from showing the love of God to them, because His ways are not our ways.
