Confession: I stole my first Bible!

You may not have realised it but I am a Master criminal! I was walking down the stairs at my Dad’s house and my eye caught a small KJV children’s bible on the book shelf and it reminded me of a crime that I committed many years ago. You see that bible belonged to my brother Sam, a gift from loving grandparents, but when I was about 7 I wanted it for myself so I cunningly changed the inscription inside. Where the inscription said to Sam I put a line through it and wrote Tracey. Just incase I would be found out I also put a line through the date – that should fool them. You can see why I never went on to have a lucrative criminal career – I wasn’t very competent! No one ever found out as Sam wasn’t actually interested in that bible and it was hard to read. (If I can get my Dad’s scanner working I’ll upload the evidence!)

I must have tried to cover up my crime at a later stage as I tried to tippex out my name! But my sin was quite plain for anyone who cared to see. Even what we have done in secret is seen:

Jeremiah 23:24 Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?” declares the LORD. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the LORD.

But God is gracious – although he already knows what we have done he gives us opportunity to confess it – to speak it out loud and own it and he will forgive us.

1 John 1:9-10 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

What secrets are you carrying? He already knows and sees and is ready to forgive if you will give up your ‘secret’ to him.
