A tale of two churches – same difference

Standard

Within 48 hours of being home in Belfast I have attended two church services at two very different churches. I was at the Youth Service in my home church, Orangefield Presbyterian – it was so great to see the next generation of young people coming forward and sharing so confidently of how they love God and what he was teaching them. The next morning I attended a funeral service of my Dad’s cousin, where Rev Dr Ian Paisley was preaching. It was a hatwearing, skirt wearing, thee & thou occasion. Although the two services were very different – one was casual and intimate & the other formal – there was a very similar foundation – the love of Christ. Both groups, gathered for different occasions, came to worship God and to thank God for Jesus. Both were genuine in their love for God, just both expressed it so differently.

Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Often we get so caught up with our differences that we fail to see how wonderfully the same we are. In Christ we can be free to worship as who we are safe in the knowledge that if we confess him & belive we will be saved – even if we do so in a different style than our neighbour.
